Restaurants and hotels gear up for Bass Pro World Fishing Show

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The World Fishing Show is coming to Bass Pro stores next week as the retailer celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Bass Pro’s Springfield flagship store, located at 1935 S. Campbell Ave., will host the World Fishing Fair from March 30 through April 3. It has restaurants and hotels that prepare for large crowds. Bass Pro expects nearly 100,000 visitors.

“We should be sold out and are delighted with the fishing fair,” said Gordon Elliot, owner of Vib Hotel and Elliot Accommodation. “We need to make sure we call enough people and we need to make sure all the rooms are clean.”

Elliott says he expects so many people that rooms in nearby towns will also be booked.

“We have rooms in Joplin and Branson and believe it will create a need there as well,” Elliot said.

Restaurants, like Buckingham’s BBQ across from Bass Pro Shops, are ordering and preparing more food and making their employees work longer hours.

“We will be working full days from eight in the morning until close,” said Alan Pimentel, Buckingham’s barbecue manager. “We know we’re going to have a lot of people, we have a lot of people and we’re preparing a lot of extra stuff for those days.”

The Canton Inn, a Chinese restaurant on Sunshine, says it makes 20% more food and everyone will be on deck.

Luke Combs, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Chris Janson, John Anderson and Hank Williams Jr. will perform at JQH Arena throughout the event. Many professional anglers and NASCAR legends will also make appearances throughout the week. Organizers estimate the economic impact of the World Fishing Fair at $80 million. Proceeds from concert tickets and general ticket sales will benefit conservation partners.
