New World Fishing: How To Unlock
New World’s Fishing System is one of the surest signs that this is an MMO made for the modern moment. It seems more than ever that players are more interested in peaceful side tasks such as fishing than in the central terrain of a game – quests, killing monsters, etc. Here’s how to start fishing in the New World.
To get your first fishing rod, your best bet is to make one yourself. Fortunately, it’s not too difficult to do. You will need 1 green wood and 1 fiber, which you can bring to a campfire to get crafts. If you’re lucky enough to spawn near the Watcher’s Campfire at Monarch’s Bluffs Watchtower, you’ll be able to get Hemp from the nearby Forest which you can turn into Fiber.
Alternatively, you can get a fishing rod by talking to Master Angler Michael Shields in Windsward.
Once you have a fishing rod you can go straight into fishing, but if you are looking for maximum returns you can invest in bait. You can buy bait from most merchants in the game, and you’ll want to match your bait type to the body of water you’re fishing in. Freshwater baits will work best in freshwater, saltwater baits in saltwater.
As far as fishing grounds go, anywhere will do, but generally deeper water will give better results.
