Dean Ween will appear on Discovery Channel Fishing Show

Man of the ocean, take me by the hand. Take me to the land you understand.

If there is one thing Mickey Melchiondo (a.k.a Dean Ween) likes more than playing the guitar barefoot, it’s fishing. Next month the Ween co-founder will appear on Saltwater Underground with Nick Honachefskya fishing show recently picked up by Discovery Channel.

The show features another avid fisherman and New Jersey resident Nick Honachefsky and is approaching its third season. The episode featuring Deaner, titled “Jersey Shore Rock Star Fluke,” will air at 5:30 a.m. ET on July 10 during the Discovery Channel’s fishing block.

“Nick invites legendary singer, rock star guitarist and good friend Dean Ween along with Capt. pat murphy to ply the lands of chance off NJ,” reads a description of the episode. “Heartbreaking fun using secret tactics to pull off a doormat-caliber fluke. Cooking segment with a celebrity chef Josh DeChellis of juniper hill.”

salt water underground is the latest entry in Deaner’s film reel of television fishing appearances, which also includes a 2012 spot on blink-182 singer Marc Hoppus‘ self-titled talk show. For a time, Deaner also hosted his own DIY fishing show, BTFS (Brownie Troop Fishing Show), on YouTube, which sometimes included high-profile guests such as The Claypools and Nicole Atkins. The channel, much like his personal account, eventually became a place to find Ween guitar instruction videos, semi-pro clips from Deaner’s various gigs, and more until it got dark there. three years old.

All episodes of salt water underground are filmed in New Jersey, where Dean used to charter fishing expeditions during Ween’s hiatus from 2011 to 2016. Ween is currently touring for a 4th of July West Coast tour, however, the band was forced to cancel the last two shows in Boise, ID and Missoula, MT due to a positive COVID test within the band. The band said on Tuesday that “At this time, all other dates should go ahead as planned.”
