September 11, 2022 – On Thursday, September 8, the 68th World Fishing Championship in the discipline “hook on float fishing” was officially opened with a solemn parade of all participants. The competition tracks are located on the water bodies of Stara Drava near Bilje and Topoljski Dunavac in the municipality of Draž.

The championship is organized by the International Sport Fishing Federation for Freshwater Fishing (FIPS) and is organized by the Society of Sport Fishing Associations of Baranja. 33 countries from around the world are participating in this year’s competition, and each team has five anglers. So, in the county region of Osijek-Baranja, more than 500 participants, coaches and support staff, as well as about a hundred judges and official staff take part in the championship. The competition tracks are located on the water bodies of Stara Drava near Bilje and Topoljski Dunavac in the municipality of Draž.

Osijek-Baranja County

The championship was officially opened by the technical director of the International Sport Fishing Federation for Freshwater Fishing Roland Marcq, who particularly greeted the Ukrainian fishermen.
The representative of the President of the Croatian Government was Deputy Prefect Josip Miletić, who expressed his belief that the participants of the competition will carry with pride in their hearts all that they have experienced in the county of Osijek-Baranja.

Osijek-Baranja County

“It was not easy to prepare the trails, but I hope that you are satisfied with the conditions and that you will take away great experiences, and the county of Osijek-Baranja continues to financially and organizationally support all major sports competitions, recognizing their importance to the wider community,” Miletić said with a fisherman’s greeting “with success and clarity.”

“This year 10 more countries have come together than in last year’s competition in Italy, and we have been waiting to become hosts for five years,” said Anđelko Martinčević and added that Hrvatske Vode had invested HRK 4 million in the renovation of paths, and Hrvatske Šume more than 250,000 kuna for the renovation of greenhouses.

Moruya River.

With glanders in fairly high concentrations from the upper tidal range to the mid and lower sections, fishing at Moruya has been slow this past week. The lower section still saw some smaller salmon and the small working areas of the cutters, from the quarry wharf to the bass itself. There were a few flatheads in the lower sections, but with the cold water it took maximum effort to catch a few fish.

The rock wall along Preddy’s wharf and in the hole in the wall has the potential for a few bream and trevally to hang along it. The reworked soft plastics in and along the wall can peel them off for those with boats or kayaks.

With spring now in the air, we are waiting for warmer air and water temperatures to kickstart the system.

Above the tidal line, bass begin to return to freshwater sections after their winter breeding cycle. I managed 2 very oily healthy fish last weekend on TT Striker spinner baits. Both fish were over 45cm after measuring the length of the head of the net to get a better ideal of the overall size. On the way out I spooked about 3 other fish which would have all been 40-45cm. The early season base is where it is for me, with all of my big guys hitting the net at this time of year. Bring the heat of summer and the action to the surface!!

Turos River.

Tuross was also a little quiet last week. I haven’t heard if he is suffering from the same snot as Moruya at the moment. Although flatheads are still captured here, the numbers are still very low compared to the usual reports we get from this system. However, Tuross will be the first system to start with the flathead bite, as it has vast flat systems that have darker, muddy substrate. This dark surface retains heat faster and therefore the water temperature warms up faster than other areas. We should only be a few weeks away from the start of the flathead bite.

For the bass guys, start looking towards the lower cool section of the system as the post-spawn fish move upstream. The same can be said for the Clyde system north of us.

Rock and Beach.

I’ve had mixed reports from the beach and rock face crews this week. Some guys get a lot, some get nothing. Perseverance is the key here. A good indicator if Moruya breakwater fishing will be the number of anglers on the wall. Many = better than average chance of catching fish, none = none at all! Think of anglers as a school of feeder birds, activity is usually a sign of activity. Check the Moruya bar cam to see if the wall is active if you want to give it a crack.

At sea.

Snappers continue to be reported in 30-40m of water during the day, while they have also been reported in as little as 15m of water in the morning. Flathead, although a bit small, has been reported in 15-20m of water along most sandy bottom areas.

As for game teams, I haven’t had any reports this week. Looking at the sea surface temperatures, there appears to be the start of a warm current running down the coast. Only a matter of time now!

Stay safe everyone and remember, “everyday a good day for fishing…”

From the creators of TheHunter: Call of the Wild comes a new fishing adventure that you can experience alone or in co-op with up to 12 players.

Developer Expansive Worlds has gotten pretty good at providing naturalistic settings in which players can engage in the virtual rigors of hunting, but the developer’s next title is all about trading guns for fishing rods. From the folks who brought us TheHunter: Call of the Wild comes Call of the Wild: The Angler: an open-world fishing game where players use the best bait, rods and practice to try to Catch and bring back the big ones from various lakes and seashores.

Expansive Worlds has shared the first look at Call of the Wild: The Angler in a trailer posted on the developer’s site Youtube channel. It looks like Call of the Wild: The Angler will invite players into a huge natural terrain where they can drive around and find their favorite fishing holes. From here, players can go out on a variety of boats, or fish from docks and banks, and cast their lines from a wide range of fishing gear and tackle to try and catch the best aquatic creatures they can roll up.

The description of The Call of the Wild: The Angler trailer reveals a few more details about the game. Apparently, not only will players be able to explore The Angler on a solitary fishing adventure, but you can also join friends on the same card. The Angler will allow up to 12 players to play co-op in a single instance. This means you can take a few friends with you on this fishing adventure.

Call of the Wild: The Angler appears to be an immersive open-world fishing experience.

Call of the Wild: The Angler is coming to PC later this year via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, and consoles at a later date. It doesn’t have a concrete release date yet, but it can be added to wishlist now. We love a good hunting or fishing game here at Shacknews, so stay tuned for more updates as they become available.

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – A World Fishing Tournament is heading to northwest Alabama and fans are invited to watch!

The 13th annual Bass Federation High School Fishing World Finals and National Championship will be held June 22-25 on Pickwick and Wilson lakes.

$3 million in scholarships and prizes are up for grabs as anglers from most U.S. states and several foreign countries (including Canada, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, to name a few) participate in two tournaments. All anglers present will participate in the world final, open to any member of the TBF Student Angler Federation. Anglers who have placed in the top 10% of high school teams at SAF-sanctioned events will also compete in the national championship.

The bulk of the prizes will be awarded to competitors in the World Finals; National Championship competitors will rake in $500,000 in purses and prizes. No money is given to secondary fishers.

The result has been the explosion we are currently seeing in high school angling participation nationwide, and it all adds up to a good, healthy experience for kids and their families that we all want.

Chairman and CEO of TBF, Robert Cartildge

Students who sign up pay no entry fee and can fish for both competitions at the same time if eligible. Three people are on each boat – two fishermen and their captain or adult coach.

Nearly 3,000 people are expected in the city for the event, and spectators are welcome! Boats will launch each day at 5:30 a.m. from McFarland Park (200 Jim Spain Drive, Florence), which is also where the weigh-ins will take place, beginning at 1:30 a.m. each day. Additionally, coverage will be provided on the High School Fishing website.

In addition to purses and prizes, national champions will qualify for the 2022 Major League Fishing Toyota Series Championship, scheduled for Nov. 3-5 on Lake Guntersville. They will compete as co-fishermen with a chance to win the MLF prizes, which include a new Phoenix 518 Pro boat with a 115 horsepower Mercury outboard engine.

Moruya River.

More positive reports this week as the river continues to fish well. With only minimal rainfall last week, the river continues to clear steadily, for now! Most fishing activity was seen from Quarry Wharf to the Mouth, Airport Flats, Preddy Wharf and Anchorage all seeing good numbers of Flathead, Bream and Trevally. The flats and racks behind the hole in the wall also held out Bream and Flathead.

The water temperature at this time of year is at its peak, so you never know what might happen at this time of year.

The water under the City Bridge also begins to clear up, albeit slowly, but Flathead and Bream on the sand flats below begin to become an option again after dark. It is also possible that the strange estuary perch is also found.

Turos River.

This system was the leader last week, with plenty of clear, warm water flowing in and out of the system, due to the wide mouth of the river currently being affected. Flathead, Bream, Trevally were all a common catch this week, with cleaner water pushing above four lanes giving anglers more than the lower sections to explore and fish again.

With a black moon this Sunday, there might even be a chance of finding some late-season shrimp in Coila.

With warm currents prevailing, whiting could eventually make a late season appearance in the river above the flats.

Rock and Beach.

Bream, Whiting, Tailor, Salmon, Bonito have all been popping up on local headlands and beaches this past week. Moruya Breakwall fished particularly well, with good numbers of Tailor and Bream reported, as well as Trevally Salmon and Flathead.

Worms have been the bait of choice for those hunting bream and whiting on the beaches. While sardines or cast metal lures represented the tailor, salmon and bonito from the local breakwater and headlands.

At sea.

Snapper and Flathead were both seen last week, for offshore fishing crews. Along with the hottest currents, there have undoubtedly been a few game teams that Turing has unwound as well.

Look for the snapper in 40-50m of water, while 20-30m of water is a good place to start looking for the Flathead.

Reports from Montague Island have been hit and miss on the Kingfish, with some days producing good sized fish, and others leaving anglers wondering where the fish are going day to day??

We have a brand new offering from Diawa Australia in store now, with Infeet Kodachi lures arriving this week. These lures will be crackers on the big blue nose bream that are starting to be spotted from now on as the weather begins to cool. They will also account for estuary perch, flathead, bass, trevally and trout in the mountains.

Come in and check them out today.

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, do you have something for your mom? Well, we’ve got you covered with Rapala Femme Fatale and Ugly Stick combos in pink and purple in store and ready for your mom. Come in and see for yourself.

Stay safe everyone and remember, “everyday a good day for fishing…”

Moruya River.

This week’s report is a day early to allow anyone visiting the area to prepare the right oil for tomorrow’s fishing.

With good breezes and sunny days, the wet ground quickly begins to dry out. This will make conditions much more comfortable ahead of Easter this weekend.

The river unfortunately always flows on the dirty side.

My advice to any family looking to get out and fish this weekend is to try the areas around the airport on the north side of the river and Preddy’s Wharf on the south side. Oily mullet fillet baits will be the best option with the kids this weekend. First, it’s very pick resistant, which means mom or dad will spend less time re-baiting hooks, and being oily, it has a good built-in attractant.

Expect to still be able to find flathead, sea bream and trevally in all of these areas. As for the tide, the upper half of the tide will allow cleaner ocean currents to enter the river, improving conditions for finding a fish or two.

Turos River.

Tuross is in a similar state to Moruya this weekend, he has a much bigger mouth right now which allows for a greater dirty water turnover rate. This means he will clear faster than Moruya. Tuross will fish better from the main boat launch to the boathouses and even up to four lanes this weekend. Flathead, Trevally Bream and Luderick can all be encountered in this lower half of the river areas. Mullet fillet for flathead and bream, while worms, claws will work for trevally and Luderick.

The middle and upper areas will always be very dirty, making it difficult to find fish, to say the least.

Rock and Beach.

Salmon and Tailor are readily available at most beaches this week, with some good beaters on the rocks. The Moruya breakwall continues to produce fish, with sea bream, trevally, flathead salmon and tailfish all taken from the wall this week. I’ve heard of skipjack further south, and with the warm waters currently present there’s a better than average chance of finding one of these speedsters off the rock shelves.

At sea.

Snapper, flathead, mowong and gummies have all been reported in local reefs and sand patches. We can expect this trend to continue this weekend. If you go boating this weekend, be aware that there is still a lot of airborne debris floating offshore. Keep an eagle eye and stay safe.

We are open all Easter weekend, with no closing days. So if you need anything this weekend, someone will be there to help you with all your fishing, camping, and boating needs.
